Our June 2025 convocation marked a proud moment for St. Lawrence College—the graduation of the first cohort of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Honours (BScN) degree program. This achievement represents years of dedication from students, faculty, and staff.  In Canada, BScN graduates must pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN), a mandatory entry-to-practice exam required by all provincial regulatory bodies. SLC graduates have consistently surpassed both national and provincial pass rates, and this year was no exception. 

At St. Lawrence College, the Health Care Administration (HCA) program has long been a launchpad for internationally educated professionals seeking meaningful careers in Canada’s healthcare system. But with students arriving from a wide range of professional backgrounds—from dentistry and nursing to pharmacy, optometry, and public health—the question often arises: What exactly does an HCA graduate do? 

On November 11, the Professional Services and Innovation team, in collaboration with Applied Science and Computing team hosted an inspiring employment panel that connected students with experts from diverse industries—including finance, film production, media, and the not-for-profit sector.  Organized and moderated by Jason Brown, faculty and Program Coordinator for Business Marketing program, the event gave students a rare opportunity to hear firsthand about career journeys, emerging employment trends, and the transformative role of AI in hiring and the future of work.

Cornwall Business students in the Culture, Leadership & Management class recently hosted a candid interview session with Cornwall City Counsellor, Carilyne Hebert, also an alumnus of SLC Cornwall's Business program.  We were honored to welcome Carilyne, the newly appointed Engagement & Navigation Lead at the Great River Ontario Health Team (GROHT) after completing a successful tenure as Executive Director at Social Development Council Cornwall & SDG. Her candid reflections on growing up, her time at SLC, which she called some of her fondest memories, and her journey into public service resonated deeply. 

SLC’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) program is bringing virtual reality into the classrooms in Kingston, Brockville, and Cornwall this year, funded by a Ministry of Health grant for the accelerated BScN program. The new technology is changing how students learn anatomy and practice clinical skills.
