Local students from four school boards demonstrated their impressive technical and vocational skills during an exciting three-day Skills Competition hosted by SLC in late February 2025.  The week-long event, which took place from February 25-27, saw over 100 students from grades 7-12 competing in a diverse range of skill-based categories across both Cornwall and Kingston campuses.  On Tuesday, February 25th, the Cornwall campus hosted the "Skilz Competition" featuring students from the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) and the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario (CDSBEO).
Students snowshoe into Cooper Marsh for conservation work
Despite a thick blanket of snow covering the trails and "feels like" -25 degree weather, first-year Environmental Technician students recently braved the elements to take part in hands-on field experience at Cooper Marsh Conservation Area.   Partnering once again with the Raisin Region Conservation Authority (RRCA), students helped build swallow nest boxes and duck boxes—conservation work that supports local wildlife.
SLC Vet Techs run animal care clinic for pets of Kingston’s unhoused community
On Monday, February 24, members of SLC’s Veterinary Technology program worked in conjunction with the Peer Outreach Empowerment Team (POET) to run a vet clinic for dogs owned by members of Kingston’s unhoused community.  POET facilitated by identifying the individuals seeking care for their pets and driving them to the clinic on campus. SLC Vet Tech faculty members Catherine Crandell (RVT), Dr. Laura Prociuk, and Molly Solc worked to provide veterinary care to 10 dogs, including full physical examinations, diagnostic testing, core and rabies vaccines, and flea and tick medications.
