This week, on March 27, 28, and 29, the Marianne van Silfhout Gallery is hosting the "TAKE A STAND" project to help raise awareness about the human trafficking epidemic along the 401 corridor that is targeting the young people in our communities and the vulnerable students at our college.

This impactful project was started by the staff at the Maison Baldwin House women's shelter in Cornwall after receiving a substantial donation of white Calvin Klein jeans for their fundraising boutique. The Public Educator for the shelter, Danielle McCormick, developed a presentation about human trafficking that she took into the high schools in the Cornwall area to teach students about what they can do to protect themselves and their friends.

The students then had the opportunity to design or decorate a pair of the white jeans in response. The project grew exponentially and was presented for the first time at the Cline House Gallery in Cornwall in early March. After our exhibit concludes, it will go on to other cities along the 401 between Montreal and Toronto.

Danielle has invited the high schools in Brockville to come to the gallery on Thursday the 27 and Friday the 28 to experience her presentation and to see the exhibit. She is also scheduled to deliver her presentation to students in our Police Foundations and Nursing programs.

You are invited to attend the exhibit and explore the transformative power of art in raising awareness of critical social issues. If you are a professor, you are welcome to bring your students to the gallery anytime to see the exhibit. However, if you would like them to experience the presentation, please contact Danielle to book an available time slot. Danielle's email is mbhpubvol@baldwinhouse.ca
A closing reception is open to the public on Saturday, March 29 from 1-3 pm with guest speakers and refreshments. The public will have an opportunity to see the presentation on Saturday before the reception, from 12-1.

Join us in the gallery and Take A Stand against human trafficking.
