St. Lawrence College continues the spirit of giving with the Gift of Tuition contest

‘Tis the season of giving, and St. Lawrence College continues this spirit as established in October through the “Selfie” contest and the creation of the “Gift of Tuition” contest. Students were invited to enter the ‘Gift of Tuition’ contest by telling their story for a chance to win a $500.00 credit towards their tuition.

“Being students is not always easy,” said Glenn Vollebregt, President and CEO of St. Lawrence College. “Not only are they trying to balance studying, and maintain relationships and personal and family responsibilities, they also have the added weight of financial burdens. To help ease the burden, a tuition credit was created and two students were selected from all submissions received.”

Students were given 3 ways to tell their story:

  1. How they have helped their community while being an SLC student.
  2. How they have overcome challenges to be a SLC student.
  3. How they have helped their fellow SLC students out.

“We were overwhelmed with the response and the heartwarming stories we received,” Glenn said. “It reminded us that our students are very special and do so many things to help our College and community. Several of them have also overcome tremendous barriers to be here.

Glenn travelled in a snow storm to personally meet and present the prize to the winning recipient in Cornwall. Congratulations to our winners Stefano Delacosta, Social Service Worker program, Cornwall campus, and Kairo Martin, Medical Laboratory Science program, Kingston campus.
