Exhibit showcases “untapped” creativity by Ontario high school students

BROCKVILLE, ON – St. Lawrence College is pleased to present the second annual “untapped” high school art show, PORTAL, at the Marianne van Silfhout Gallery on the Brockville campus from March 1 to April 5, 2013.  PORTAL is an exhibit of new creativity by high school students from Brockville, Gananoque and Ottawa. The opening reception will take place on Saturday, March 2 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, where artists will be presented with awards totaling $900.

This exhibit is an opportunity for high school students to express their universe, their dreams and their possibilities for the future through their artwork.  When we (the viewers) "tap" into the creative potential of these students, we become enriched by this discovery.  Viewers can expect to see a variety of artistic expressions including paintings, sculpture, photography, pottery and printmaking by nearly 50 students from St. Mary Catholic High School, BCI, TR Leger and TISS in Brockville, Gananoque Secondary School, and John McCrae Secondary School and Canterbury High School in Ottawa.  For many of the exhibiting artists, PORTAL is their first chance to showcase their art to the community in a gallery.

Also on display at the Gallery is 3D chalk art by Brockville artist and St. Lawrence College alumnus Guy Wales. Guy has produced a number of 3D chalk drawings at various community events in the area. Guy’s chalk art may be previewed on his website:
