St. Lawrence College students make their mark at New York City social media conference

It’s not every day that you get an offer to do a placement at a major company in Australia. But for St. Lawrence College student Sabrina Eshoo, that’s exactly what happened when she attended Pivot, a leading social media conference this past month with three other classmates and her professor, Lindsey Fair, in New York City.

Sabrina, who is in her third year of the Integrated Marketing Communications program at SLC, applied to Pivot for a scholarship to attend the conference by writing a blog. The blog convinced Pivot organizers to not only offer a generously reduced rate to attend the conference, but it also impressed Andrew Grill of Kred, an industry leader in the field of digital measurement. He offered Sabrina a six week placement at Kred in Australia on the spot.

"Attending the Pivot conference was an incredible learning experience. It taught me all about emerging trends in social media that I know I will take with me into my career," Sabrina said. "Because this field changes so rapidly, the ability to change tactics quickly is necessary. Conferences like Pivot, and my studies at SLC, have given me the skills to be able to adapt as quickly as the times. I am looking forward to an amazing placement in Australia!"

“The social media world is just exploding with opportunity to not only learn but to break new ground,” said Lindsey Fair. “I was so happy to be able to expose my students to this conference so they could network and soak it all in. It will definitely help them in their future careers. Social media is only going to get bigger, and our students are the future of how it will be shaped.”

Lindsey plans to take her students to the same conference next year. For more information on the IMC program, now called Advertising & Marketing Communications, please visit For more information on Pivot, visit:
