St. Lawrence College Announces Departure of President and CEO

Board of Governors Chair, Paul Fitzpatrick confirmed today that Chris Whitaker, will be leaving the College following almost twenty-five years of service, the last five of which were as President and CEO of the institution.

“It is with a sense of loss that I have received Chris’ resignation and there is no doubt in my mind that the College, and our communities as a whole, will share in that loss. At the same time, Chris has been offered an exciting opportunity to serve as President of Canada’s largest college – Humber in Toronto. It should come as no surprise that the talents of Chris, given his leadership and, the track record of accomplishment that we have come to enjoy, would be highly sought after by other post-secondary institutions,” said Paul Fitzpatrick.

Whitaker says, he is, and will always be, extremely proud of St Lawrence College, the difference it makes for so many students, in the lives of our graduates and the strength and prosperity of our communities in Southeastern Ontario and beyond. “What I will miss most is the people - the phenomenal staff at the College, the thousands of extraordinary students who choose St Lawrence to start or augment their careers, and the communities who so willingly and generously support our learners and our mission, as partners in education.”

“There’s no question this was a difficult personal decision but I am absolutely confident in the strength and tremendously important role that St Lawrence College will continue to play in partnership with its communities and the learners we serve,” he said.

Whitaker will undertake his new duties in July of this year. A search for a new president will be initiated under the direction of the St Lawrence College Board of Governors with interim leadership plans to be announced shortly.
