During a lunchtime reception on August 19, SLC celebrated the launch of its new Residential Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic program, which addresses a critical shortage in a skilled trade and meets the needs of both apprentices and employers. Behind this exciting announcement is an amazing journey that led to this program being launched.   In January 2022, ClimateCare Canada approached SLC to discuss their training needs and to offer a partnership. Throughout many early meetings while we strategized how to create a program, Executive Director Victor Hyman helped me understand the issue at hand. 

SLC is proud to share recent highlights and achievements of its students, alumni, staff, and faculty from the School of Skilled Trades.

St. Lawrence College is hosting 14 faculty members and six senior administrators from Xi-An Eurasian University in China for a faculty training program, July 29 to August 9 on the Kingston campus. The Educational Design and Leadership in a Global Context program emphasizes outcome-based learning and culturally inclusive pedagogy. Participants engage in reflective practices, comparing educational methods in Canada and their home countries, to implement effective and culturally relevant strategies. This cohort-based intensive program fosters leadership and aims to drive organizational and societal changes. 

We’re pleased to announce through a joint effort between the Registrar’s Office and Academic Teams that we have updated and merged the Academic Level 2 calendar with the Registrar’s Office calendar to establish one document of key dates.

In an exciting collaboration with Tourism Kingston, I recently led Tourism students, as part of their Arts and Cultural Tourism class, on a city-wide scavenger hunt designed to enrich their understanding of Kingston's historical and cultural heritage.   This experiential learning activity challenged students to work in groups, decipher clues, and uncover some of Kingston's most iconic sites. Armed with hints, prepared by Alex Allain from TK, about various historical, cultural, and tourism attractions, the students set off to identify these places, locate them on the map, and visit each site in groups.
