POSITION SUMMARY

Reports to Department Manager, and under the guidance of the designate, the student incumbent works up to 30-hours per week (may include evenings and/or weekends) providing assistance in greeting and guiding customers and performing limited administrative related tasks to gain work experience while supporting the operations of the department. The successful incumbent demonstrates strong customer service, interpersonal, and communication (oral and written) skills, combined with an ability to work under pressure, and problem-solve while working independently.

The student will assist and work under the direction of Information Technology staff. The successful candidate will demonstrate reliability, responsibility and the ability to work in an unsupervised environment. Training will be provided in the setup, deployment and maintenance of campus IT equipment in preparation for the upcoming academic year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supports staffing of department and student users by responding (in person, by phone or email) to general queries and escalating as required.
  • Shipping/Receiving of Computer Equipment
  • Unpacking and Installation of Computer Equipment Assist with other IT summer related activities
  • On occasion may be asked to perform other duties as assigned, such as special functions (i.e., orientation, convocation, open house, awards dinners, etc.)
  • Maintain Printers – including replenishing supplies and filling paper trays

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.

Other Required Qualifications:

  • General knowledge of computer hardware and software.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Time management, strong organizational skills, and an attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively work independently with instruction, or collaboratively as part of a team.
  • General knowledge of standard computer applications (MS word, Excel, Teams, & Email).
  • High degree of integrity for maintaining confidentiality at all times.

Physical/Work Environment Essential Requirements: 

The successful incumbent must have the ability to report to the work location.

Salary & Terms

  • Start Rate: $17.20/hour, (plus 6% in lieu of vacation)
  • Hours per week: 30.00

Terms of Employment:

  • Must be returning to Full-Time studies in the immediate upcoming semester.
  • Must be in good academic standing for full duration of employment.
