Typography IV

Objective

The purpose of this project was to create a series of pieces across multiple applications for a conference campaign. The goal was to create a cohesive design system across a brochure with a poster on the back, and a website on PC, tablet, and mobile breakpoints. Each piece includes bios for the speakers and the schedule of the lectures for attendees to reference.

Description

The conference is called Mixed Forecast and the topic of the conference is extreme weather and climate change. The main imagery of the pieces is burning trees using a mixed colour scheme. The forest fire imagery represents extreme weather as a result of climate change. The pieces have a mixed colour scheme of contrasting colours to draw attention to the piece and reflect the name of the conference, Mixed Forecast. Century Gothic is the typeface because it is geometric, highly legible, and web safe. The “t” of the typeface also pairs well with the burning tree imagery of the title cluster and the theme across all of the pieces.

Brand Identity Design I

Objective

The purpose of this project was to re-design and improve the logo and branding of an existing company to better represent their business, mission, and values. The hypothetical re-design is for OLABamboo which creates environmentally friendly home and personal care products made from sustainable materials. OLABamboo’s mission is to reduce plastic waste and its effects on the environment by creating products without the use of plastic.

Description

The symbol of the re-designed logo is inspired by the name, OLA Bamboo, because of the imagery of bamboo stalks. The bamboo green, rounded corners, and organic shapes of the bamboo sections represent their value of sustainability by creating a natural feeling to the logo. The typeface Nunito is chosen for its clean look and rounded corners to reflect the corners of the symbol. Black is chosen for the wordmark to appear fresh and clean paired with the green. Black is also chosen because when the logo is displayed on a white background, the black and white pairing is the colours of a panda which is often associated with bamboo. Overall, the re-designed logo represents OLABamboo’s value of sustainability and better reflects the name and mission of the business.

Interaction Design III
Brand Identity Design I

Objective

The purpose of this project is to design a logo and website for an imaginary e-commerce brand. The branding of the logo, website, and other applications should reflect the values, products, and services of the business. The e-commerce brand is called Chasing Plastic and it sells ultimate frisbee gear. Their main values are friendliness and sportiness.

Description

The Chasing Plastic logo is a symbol of a bunny jumping through a disc. The bunny represents speed, agility, and friendliness. The disc the bunny is jumping through looks like a flying frisbee which makes the logo recognizable as an ultimate frisbee gear store. The bright orange and blue colours are chosen to create an energetic feel to the logo by using contrasting colours. The typeface of the wordmark is Avant Garde which is chosen for its circular shaped “a”s to reflect a circular frisbee. Chasing Plastic is a friendly ultimate frisbee e-commerce store, and the logo represents that.

Interaction Design V

Objective

This independent project gave the freedom to create any interaction design project. The chosen project was an app designed for busy college students to find, read, and listen to books on the go. The objective of the app is to provide unique, quick, and easy ways to find books that the user would love.

Description

This book app offers unique and easy ways to find interesting books through multiple methods. Some of these methods include browsing by genre, searching by key words to describe the book, and the ability to post a request for recommendations from other users. Users may also browse by cover, quote, or keywords, by using the flip to find feature. This feature allows the user to flip through the cover, key words, or quote of books and decide whether they want to swipe right and add it to their shelf or left to see the next book. These are just some of many ways users can find a book quickly and conveniently on this app.
