Hi, My name is Mikala! I have been interested in digital art and graphic design ever since I started high school. I took a mix of graphic design and media arts courses over my 4 years in high school and eventually found my way to the Graphic Design Program. Throughout my three years in this program, I have had the opportunity to learn and grow alongside others who share my passion for design. This program has also taught me numerous valuable skills that have allowed me to grow tremendously as a designer.

Agency Capstone – Capstone Project
Objective
The objective of this project was for students to use design thinking and ethical research processes and create a research plan in order to define a design problem and create a functional design solution.
Description
For this project, I designed a smart home interface centred around renewable energy that would give homeowners the option to customize and control their home energy usage. I wanted the application to have a highly modern look, and to achieve this I used an eye-catching gradient that featured a blue and green value that users could relate back to renewable energy. The interface itself contains a lot of useful information and statistics as well for homeowners and is easy to navigate in order to keep it user-friendly and easy to understand.

Typography 3 – Modern Fables Project Project
Objective
The objective for this project was for students to create a two page spread and book cover that modernized old fables using illustrations as well as interesting typographic layouts and hierarchy.
Description
For the two page spread I incorporated an axial layout with hand drawn illustrations, as well as coloured text in order to create visual interest on the pages. I also used a complimentary colour palette that matched with each individual fable. For the cover I went for a minimalistic look by using white space as well as faded text and a simplistic emblem.

Print Media Workflow & Typography 4 – Environmental Conference Campaign Project
Objective
The objective for this project was for students to design a series of print and digital deliverables for an environmental conference campaign that used a visual metaphor to convey the conference message. The deliverables for this project were a poster and brochure, a booklet as well as a responsive website.
Description
For this project I was working with the concept of an environmental architecture conference. In order to convey the message behind the conference I used the visual metaphor of nature co-existing with a cityscape of large buildings. To achieve this I used a mostly green colour palette for the cityscape and used the idea of trees grow- ing on top of buildings in a rooftop garden style. I also used vines to function as the power-lines and carried this illustration across all of project the deliverables in order to relate everything back to my initial visual metaphor.
