Design Educator Case Study for RGD:   

St. Lawrence Students Connect with Clients Beyond the Classroom for 'Design Your Community' Project 

Industry professionals, advisory committees and employers all stress the importance of critical thinking and communication skills for graphic design graduates. Technical and design skills alone are not enough to succeed. This project connects student work with professional practice by investigating the following questions: 

  • How do we teach design as a problem-solving process, not just a product?
  • How do we foster critical professionalism and greater engagement in our students?  
  • How do we integrate opportunities to design solutions for actual clients, real users and complex problems?

Graphics Students' Work on Display

Graduating students in the graphic design program at St. Lawrence College put their talents on display this week before heading out into the real world. A weeklong exhibition of their work has been held inside Davies Hall, showcasing their professional-quality abilities. Called “21 Dolls and 13 Fellas Design for the World of Tomorrow,” it ends Friday, running from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

SLC Graphic Design Student Wins Advertising Design Competition While on Placement

Alex Roberts' design work beat out some of Canada’s top creative talent while he was completing a placement at Station X, an advertising agency with the Astral Media group in Vancouver this past spring. Together with a copywriting partner, they created a new outdoor ad campaign for Astral client, Mercedes Benz. 

SLC Graphic Design Students Win Design Awards

Two Graphic Design students from St. Lawrence College have won design awards from the Association of Registered Graphic Designers (RGD) 2013 Student Awards. The award winners were selected by a jury of 50 award-winning creative professionals. A total of seventeen $1,000 awards, sponsored by industry leaders, were distributed in recognition of outstanding achievement in all areas of graphic design.
