This update shares important news regarding SLC’s presence in Eastern Ontario: Effective immediately, SLC will return to calling all three of its locations “campuses.”
Recently, employee engagement sessions were held on the Brockville and Cornwall campuses, which were a huge success. Some 100 people attended and shared ideas and suggestions for how the college can best move forward in an era of massive change. From feedback also received from government and community partners and college donors, the decision was made to return to the terminology of “campus” for all SLC locations rather than referring to Brockville and Cornwall as “learning centres.”
This decision, however, does not change the restructuring and evolution of service delivery models which is underway. Rather, it will allow people to engage fully in the process of reimagining the college without time and energy lost to thinking about what SLC’s locations are called.
All SLC campuses are a home base for students, where they attend in-person classes and labs, connect with their peers, and socialize while accessing services and learning resources. Brockville and Cornwall campuses will continue to evolve, and SLC's goal is to create modernized and technology-enabled facilities, offering the best services and resources to students when, how, and where they need and want them.
All SLC campuses will continue to be student-focused, with centralized administration to drive efficiency, and for fall 2025 academic year, will feature expanded access to services for students via new platforms which increase flexibility and hours of availability.
What remains the same:
-On-campus health center to support student health needs
-In-person programming and labs
-Student events and activities
-On-site study spaces
-Food services and residence options
-On-site employees dedicated to supporting students in their learning journey
What will evolve:
-Expanded service hours for accessing supports and resources
-New tools and options for students to have their needs met when and where it suits them best
-Some teams will be managed by staff based in another location
-Updates to spaces ensuring optimal use by all students
-Building optimizations to enhance the overall student experience
