Two students from St. Lawrence College brought home medals from the Skills Ontario competition which was held May 6-8, 2019 in Toronto.

Esthetician student Katie Salamone won the gold medal, competing against six other students from across Ontario in facial with high frequency, manicure with nail art, fantasy make up, and pedicure with red polish. Katie will compete in the national skills competition on May 28-29 in Halifax. Katie's gold medal is the latest in a long streak of wins at the provincial skills competition for students in SLC’s Esthetician program; for the last eleven years they have won the gold medal at the provincial level.

Second-year Carpenter Apprentice, Alex Edwards, won silver medal in the Individual Carpentry competition.  According to Carpentry professor Jamie Seaby, the competition had several layers of detail and complexity: “Alex was able to problem solve using his carpentry skills and drive for perfection. His finished project was so clean, precise, and professionally done, it must have been a close one for the judges.”

“We’re so proud of the continued success of the Esthetician program in bringing home the hardware and of this first time placing in the Carpentry division,” said Stephen Finnagan, Associate Dean of Skilled Trades and Tourism at SLC. “These achievements are a testament to the hard work of our amazing students and the dedication and professionalism of our faculty.”
