Steve Clark, Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes, toured St. Lawrence College’s (SLC) Brockville campus on Friday, December 7, 2018.

Mr. Clark toured the College’s Brockville campus to see the results of campus renewal projects completed as part of the College’s Hello Future Capital Project, including the expanded and renovated campus Library and the state-of-the-art Health Care Simulation Lab. The $42-million Hello Future Capital Project included funding from the Ontario government. Mr.Clark spoke with students, faculty, and members of the Student Administrative Council, the student government on the Brockville campus.

“St. Lawrence College is vital to our community and our economy and I’m a proud advocate of our local campus and Ontario’s community college system. The campus has been instrumental in providing quality education and hands-on training to its students and helping them to find or create jobs in an increasingly complex and competitive global market. The modernization represents a successful collaboration and strong partnerships between post-secondary institutions, business, and government,” said MPP Clark. “Having a leading-edge post-secondary campus in our riding is a tremendous advantage in our economic development recruitment efforts. Beyond the economic benefits, the students, staff and graduates who remain here contribute immensely to making our community a great place to live.”

In addition to offering widely popular programs such as Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Business, and Police Foundations, the Brockville campus is home to niche programs, such as Pre-Service Firefighter and Mental Health and Addictions Worker, as well as two unique arts programs, Visual and Fine Arts and Music Theatre Performance. The wide array of programs continues to be a draw both from the wider Brockville community, as well as provincially and globally.

“We appreciate the support MPP Clark shows our college and the extended Leeds and Grenville community,” said Glenn Vollebregt, SLC President and CEO. “As close to 80 per cent of our graduates remain in the area for their working lives, maintaining a healthy community is important. MPP Clark is aware of the many ways St. Lawrence College programs, students, staff, and alumni contribute to the Brockville community and beyond.”
