Now in its second year, the Junior Chef Team Competition will be held at St. Lawrence College (SLC) in the Essence kitchen and dining room on Monday, October 21 from 9:30am – 12:00pm. Culinary teams of four from four local high schools will compete, creating a three-course meal in a 2 ½ hour time limit.
The teams will create a soup of their choice, an entrée plate that uses chicken (donated by Pig and Olive) and a dessert using either Macintosh or Granny Smith apples. The teams have been practicing in their high school and will be ready to compete at SLC. Winners will receive a large banner and each team member receives a tuition bursary for St Lawrence College. Judges include Daniel Hendry from SLC, Emma Sully, a second-year Culinary Management student, and Kingston and the Islands MPP, Ian Arthur, a former chef from the renowned Kingston restaurant, Chez Piggy.
SLC is also hosting the Women in Trades event welcoming approximately 400 female students from Kingston area high schools to experience the skilled trades labs and shops on campus. This event will occur on campus on Monday, October 21st in the Student Life and Innovation Centre beginning at 9:30 am with students visiting the skilled trades labs throughout the day.
