As we approach the end of an academic semester and the beginning of the holiday season, this exhibit is intended to provide you with a place of calm and a place of reflection. The prompt behind this exhibit was to explore the affect of social media on mental wellbeing, good or bad. The prompt was given to 2 very different groups of students in context of their studies.
In the foyer cases, Fine Arts students have produced drawings and paintings that explore their relationships to social media and the power of photography to capture and share a personal moment through “Selfie Self-portraits”.
In the main gallery, 3rd year nursing students consider the impact of social media messaging on mental health. Their group projects demonstrate thoughtful engagement with current cultural practices or "conversations" around mental wellness, and critically reflect on these and the ways in which they may or may not support mental wellbeing.
The artist collective The FISHEAS (a local group of artists and researchers with shared ideologies and aesthetics who create work together) have collaborated with the ideas present and contributed 2 installations to provide interactive and calming experiences for visitors.
Through prompts and QR codes, you are invited to engage with the works in this exhibit by sharing a reflection, completing a survey, contributing to a word cloud, playing with toys, following a guided meditation, walking the labyrinth, or hugging the hug-a-bag.
Read, Reflect, Relax, Enjoy!
