What is it?

  • The Ontario First Generation Bursary is for post-secondary students whose parents have never attended post-secondary studies.
  • It’s for students with financial need attending a publicly-assisted college or university in Ontario only.
  • This is an application-based bursary. You must complete the application fully and meet the eligibility requirements to be considered.
  • In 2017/18, we had over 130 completed and eligible bursary applications with 33 recipients receiving $1,000 each!

The First Generation Bursary is NOW CLOSED for the 2018-19 academic year. 
The next round will be available sometime in the 2019-20 academic school year.

Application Deadline was Friday February 22, 2019 by 4:00pm
This is an application based bursary and we have 34 bursaries approx. $1000 each available. 
All applications are reviewed and graded by a committee before recipients are chosen.

For the bursary, you must meet ALL the following criteria in order to be eligible to apply and be reviewed:

  • Neither of your parent(s)/guardian(s) attended post-secondary studies in any country. (siblings may have attended/be attending)
  • You are an Ontario resident (having lived in Ontario for 12 consecutive months, prior to beginning postsecondary studies)
  • You are enrolled in a certificate, diploma, or degree program at St. Lawrence College
  • You don’t already have a completed post-secondary certificate, diploma, or degree
  • You are NOT a Second Career, International, or Dual Credit student.
  • You demonstrate a financial need that exceeds $1000 (according to the application budget form)

You do not need to apply for OSAP for Full-Time Students or OSAP for Part-Time Students to be considered for this bursary.

How to Apply

Complete an online application - the application is CLOSED for the 2018-19 academic school year.

The application form consists of:

  • Eligibility & Student Declaration
  • Personal Information
  • Budget Form
  • Personal questions related to being a First Generation student at SLC
  • Handwritten applications will not be accepted

Once you have completed and reviewed your application, click submit

Bursary Application Tips

  • Make sure you fit the eligibility criteria above before filling out the application.
  • Fill out the application fully, incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
  • Answer and complete the application questions to the best of your ability before you start the application - these are the main consideration when recipients are being selected.
  • The First Generation Bursary is a different application than the bursaries you can apply for through the SLC Bursaries and Scholarships department.
  • Email with any questions or stop by and see a member of your First Gen Team.
