St. Lawrence College's Visual & Creative Arts - Fine Arts students recently completed inspiring large-scale art projects that showcased their talent and the power of teamwork. Under the guidance of faculty Christina Chrysler and Heather Savage, first and second-year students joined forces to create art for the semi-formal event hosted by SAC, Brockville Campus' student government, visioned by Jaden Blasdell, VP of Student Life.
Throughout the project, students immersed themselves in a comprehensive learning experience that integrated various courses within the Fine Arts program. In Professional Practice 2, second-year students Katie Belec, Laura Fuentes-Roman, Nanda Loredo Del Valle Prieto, Michelle Regalado Orellana, Julien Saringan, Loren Frame, Maeve Haws, and Bella Yang-White worked as project managers to design and build large 3D sculptures, while first-year students Jenn Bowman, Emma Chapman, Brigid Coulombe, Savannah Girard, Morgan Huizenga, Sine Lam, and Maddie Morgan provided invaluable assistance as part of their Creative Practice 2 course. Mentorship, an important component of the Professional Practice 2 course, was a focus of the collaboration, which provided students with the opportunity to work in groups toward a common creative goal and develop skills in planning, budgeting, time management, and professional communication.
In their Drawing 2 course, first-year students also produced large-scale artwork of various creatures on wood cut-outs to further develop skills in concept development, reference sourcing, planning, and implementation of large-scale gridding up techniques. Behind the scenes, Dwayne Earle, Facilities Technical Support Officer, played a pivotal role in bringing the students' visions to life on the Brockville campus by cutting out their wood shapes and creating weighted bases. Together, they showcased the limitless possibilities of artistic expression and innovation.
SLC's Visual & Creative Arts - Fine Arts program offers a dynamic and immersive experience, where students explore traditional and experimental artistic practices. From figure drawing to digital media, the curriculum fosters creativity and equips students with practical skills for success in the arts industry.
