Story idea submitted by Chris Garnett, VP Human Resources and Organizational Development
United Way co-chairs Chris Garnett, VP Human Resources and Organizational Development, and Shelley Aylesworth-Spink, VP International Education, are thrilled to report that the 2020 campaign was the most successful SLC has ever held.
The tri-campus campaign was a record-breaker in many areas, including:
- highest employee participation rate with 44 donors (the previous record was in 2016 with 27 donors)
- 9% increase in dollars donated versus 2019
- 33 new donors from 2019
- highest dollars donated, from employee giving, on record with $13,686
- SLC received the KFL&A United Way ‘Local Love’ award for 2020 – workplaces that put extraordinary effort into an enthusiastic workplace campaign
In addition to collecting financial donations, a food drive was held at each campus with the food going directly to local food banks; the effort resulted in more than 1,500 individual food items donated. As well, many virtual events were held including a community-specific webinar each week focusing on local initiatives.
"These amazing results show how dedicated our SLC community is to giving back, especially during the pandemic, with so many people facing economic challenges across our areas," Chris said. "Shelley and I want to say a big thank you to everyone for a great United Way campaign this past year!"
