The School of Contemporary Teaching & Learning (SCTL) held a college-wide virtual information session on October 21 which included important updates on two key initiatives: Teaching Excellence and Learning Space Design.
The information session provided a historical overview of both initiatives by highlighting the multiple voices of faculty/staff that participated in Academic Plan Working Groups as well those who participated open consultations during 2023-2024. Representing the collective wisdom of the larger learning community, members of the SCTL introduced the domains of teaching practice that had been identified for SLC’s Teaching Excellence Framework as well as the core principles that will be utilized to inform SLC’s Learning Space Design strategy.
The Teaching Excellence Framework
1. Learning Environment
2. Facilitation
3. Subject Matter Expertise
4. Lesson Planning
5. Assessment & Feedback
6. Digital Technology
7. Applied Research & Scholarship
8. Reflection & Professional Development
Learning Space Design Principles
1. Inclusive
2. Flexible
3. User Friendly & Focused
4. Sustainable
The Teaching Excellence Framework and Learning Space Design Principles will continue to be socialized across the college as we begin to embed these elements within our culture of academic excellence. We invite everyone to review the recording of the info session to learn more about these initiatives and review the attached slide deck for more details.
