Project Management student Amrinder Maan recently published a collection of inspirational quotes in Punjabi entitled, Darbar. Amrinder shares his inspiration for the collection, his plans to write more, with a translation in English coming soon.
Q. What inspired you to write this book?
A. I wrote this book of quotes as a tribute to my maternal grandmother, Rai Kaur. She used to tell stories to my me and my brother Avtar Maan when we were kids. My writing philosophy is to use few words while conveying a lot of factual understanding. So, “less words big understandings” is how I write. I believe that the younger generation—of which I am also a part—is less patient. Everyone wants to learn wise things quickly. So, this circumstance inspired me to create a book of my own original quotes that anyone can read from any page of the book like one can start from beginning or from ending or from middle. One can read it for 5 minutes or an hour, but one will get something good from the book.
Q. How long did it take you to write?
A. It took almost one and half years to complete this book. Half part of this book was written in India, Punjab, and half of its part is written in Canada.
Q. Can you share a few examples of your quotes for the story?
A. Because these lines clearly define the criteria of book, my favourite Top 5 quotes are:
- Learn to connect before you break, first learn to crawl, then learn to stroll.
- If you want butter then do better.
- Butter, Money & Success can’t be digested by everyone.
- No one knows when spoons will become knives.
- The first step is “try” before starting anything.
Q. Do you plan to write anything further?
A. Yes, many readers are asking for English version of my book “Darbar” and lots of readers are asking for volume two. I’m also a singer and a songwriter, so right now I don’t know what will happen next, but I’m sure something new and unique is coming soon.
