The Kingston Canadian Film Festival (KCFF) and St. Lawrence College (SLC) have revived its longstanding partnership with SLC's Graphic Design program, resulting in striking new, student-designed artwork for its milestone 25th anniversary celebration.

The project was integrated into a third-year Graphic Design class as part of a "Design Your Community" initiative, where each student developed potential solutions for the festival's visual identity, demonstrating how SLC provides students with real-world client experiences. Hailing from nearby Battersea, Owen Denesuik’s concept was ultimately selected to move forward. His winning design features three jewel tones and incorporates vignettes from this year's feature films, centered around a prominent "25" to mark the festival's quarter-century milestone.

"Working on the festival artwork has been an incredible opportunity to contribute to KCFF's visual legacy," said Denesuik, who refined his design under the guidance of Andrew McLachlan as client-side Art Director. "I wanted to create something that would honor both the festival's history and its future."
The selection process was overseen by McLachlan, former St. Lawrence College Graphic Design professor who previously led the partnership from 2005 to 2017. "Returning to guide this project feels like coming full circle," McLachlan said. "The quality of student submissions continues to impress, and Owen's design perfectly captures the spirit of this significant anniversary."

“Owen’s design created a great foundation for KCFF to build upon. The proposed design was very cohesive with the festival’s identity and demonstrated in-depth brand awareness. This streamlined its incorporation into our marketing for the festival's 25th anniversary,” said Julia Finnegan, KCFF’s Marketing Manager. "Having our longtime artistic collaborator Andrew McLachlan as our creative liaison for the revival of this initiative made this year's artwork even more meaningful."

The partnership, which has produced the majority of KCFF's festival artwork over its history, had been on hiatus since 2017 and was further interrupted by the pandemic. This renewal marks not only the festival's 25th anniversary but also celebrates over two decades of sponsorship from St. Lawrence College.
