SLC Board of Governors Overview for 2022-2023

What do they do?

The role of the St. Lawrence College Board of Governors (BOG) is to establish governance structures and set the College vision, strategic directions, and overall goals to enable the achievement of expected institutional outcomes with clear lines of communication and internal accountability. As outlined in the Board of Governors By-Laws, the members of the BOG are also accountable to hire and annually assess the performance of the President & CEO, conduct an annual review of the College’s Strategic Plan, Business Plan, and Annual Report, and play a leadership role in the execution of the annual college audit process.

Who are they?

The BOG is made up of 17 members including:

  • The President & CEO of St. Lawrence College
  • Four (4) internal governors representing the St. Lawrence College student, faculty, administrative (management), and support staff groups
  • Twelve (12) external community members representing the Brockville, Cornwall, and Kingston communities, four (4) of whom are elected through the Government of Ontario’s Lieutenant Governor in Council process

For the 2022-23 academic year, we are pleased to have fourth-year BScN student Lisa Axworthy serve as our Student Governor, Registration Services Officer, Elysa Keyes serving as our Support Staff Governor, and André Léger, Associate Dean, School of Contemporary Teaching & Learning, serving as our Administrative governor.

This fall, the Office of the President & CEO will begin the search for the board’s next Faculty governor, who will succeed Grant Currie who retired from SLC over the summer; once elected, they will serve on the board as the next Faculty governor through August 2023.

Then later this spring, a fulsome search for Lisa, Elysa, André, and our incoming Faculty governors’ successors will take place to ensure new internal governors are elected prior to the start of the 2023-24 academic year. The President’s Office will share details and information about how you can apply to join the board in the new year. Please keep an eye on your email for news and details.

When do they meet?

The BOG meets five times annually to take part in traditional BOG meetings, traditionally in September, December, February, April, and June.
