SLC has a long-standing partnership with Nagoya University of Foreign Studies in Japan. This summer, between August 8 and 26, 2022, a group of 30 Nagoya students will visit Kingston for a short-term ESL program. The program is designed to be experiential and immersive so students can explore Canadian culture. This is also a great opportunity for you to interact with our students and engage in intercultural learning, not to mention to show our guest true Canadian hospitality.

We would like to call on families to host 2-3 students for dinner at their homes. Here are the three easy steps to participate in this wonderful opportunity:

Step 1: Choose the date(s) and time.

You can choose one or multiple dates depending on your availability.

  • Thursday, August 11
  • Wednesday, August 17
  • Tuesday, August 23

If you can host outside of these dates, please propose the date(s). No Saturdays, but Sundays are okay.

The dinner invitation should be between 5-9pm. The exact time can be determined by you to suit your family schedule.

Step 2: Email Ivy Zhang by July 27.

Email Ivy Zhang at XZhang@sl.on.ca by July 27 if you are interested in hosting students. Please tell us if you have pets so we can let the students know in case of allergies. Also, provide any additional information we should know in advance to facilitate the activity.

Step 3: We'll match your family with the students.

We will assign 2 or 3 students to your family. We will give them the invitation, and they will write to you to confirm. Feel free to plan your menu and students will let you know if they have any food allergies.

We ask you to either give them directions to your house by bus/walking or offer to pick them up from campus. All students are staying at Kingston campus residence.

Also, if you are interested in joining Conversation Club to chat with these students, please contact Jennifer Burns at JABurns@sl.on.ca
