This semester marks an exciting milestone for St. Lawrence College as we officially launch the St. Lawrence Experience Record (SER), a new initiative that recognizes students’ involvement outside the classroom and supports their career readiness. SER offers students a unique opportunity to track and display their experiences, build new skills, and reflect on their personal growth.
How Are Students Recognized?
The St. Lawrence Experience Record recognizes student achievements across five key areas:
· Experiences: Involvement in specific campus roles like student government, athletics, peer mentoring, and more!
· Badges: Awarded to students for completing specific training or any of the five Learning Pathways.
· Volunteer Hours: Recognition for giving back to the community through on-campus volunteering.
· Clubs: Recognition for actively participating in or leading a student club.
· Learning Pathways: Skill-building opportunities that help students develop in-demand competencies through workshops and self-directed resources.
Why It Matters
SER offers an official record of student achievements beyond the classroom, helping students connect their co-curricular involvement to real-world employability skills. Employers are increasingly looking for well-rounded candidates who can demonstrate leadership, teamwork, and a commitment to their community—all qualities captured through the St. Lawrence Experience Record.
Spotlight on Volunteering
Looking to recruit student volunteers? The “Volunteer Hours” section allows students to log hours spent volunteering at campus events, giving them recognition for their contributions. We encourage staff to connect students with volunteer opportunities and help them grow their SER through meaningful involvement in college activities. Join Us: How To Build Your SER
To understand how you can support students in building their St. Lawrence Experience Record, we’re hosting a webinar: How To Build Your SER. This session will provide a detailed overview of SER and the different opportunities available to students. It’s a great way for staff to get involved and support SLC’s ongoing efforts to enrich the student experience.
