group of faculty

Submitted by Francine Desnoyers, Academic Operations Coordinator, SCTL

The School of Contemporary Teaching & Learning (SCTL) held its annual tri-campus SCTL Program Graduation on June 11, 2024, this year as faculty, staff, and academic leaders gathered on Kingston campus to celebrate the achievements of program participants that successfully completed a teaching/learning program during the 2023-24 academic year.

This year’s celebration included graduates from four programs including: Empowered Educator Program (EEP), Digital Learning Program (DLP), Teaching Effectiveness Program (TEP), & Contemporary Educator Program (CEP). The SCTL is pleased to share that we had 72 graduates (20 FT Faculty, 37 PT/PL Faculty, 14 Support Staff, & 1 Administrator) this year across our multiple programs!

We invite you to learn more about the program and our graduates by reviewing the list below.

Empowered Educator Program (EEP)

Lead Facilitators(s): Trisha Morrow (Coordinator & Professor, Pre-Health Sciences / Empowered Educator Facilitator)

The EEP program was piloted in 2023-24 using the curriculum from eCampusOntario’s original “OntarioExtend” program. Participants completed a series of online (asynchronous) modules created by eCampusOntario and were mentored by an SLC facilitator – Trisha Morrow. The SCTL will be using feedback from the pilot cohorts to re-structure the program and leverage the curriculum as open educational resources within other learning opportunities in the coming year.

Her interest in creating a pro-active approach to digital training enabled the SCTL to deliver a new online (asynchronous) program focusing on college-approved digital learning tools and their application within contemporary teaching practices. This program was piloted in Fall 2023 and the SCTL is currently revamping it to include Blackboard ULTRA so that it may become available in the upcoming year for all faculty/staff.

Participants engage in a series of in-person and online (synchronous) sessions in year one spanning various topics such as: assessment, student engagement, Indigenous pedagogies, lesson planning, and more. They also learn from our college community by visiting Kingston, Brockville, and Cornwall campuses to explore the unique program mix and the multiple supports provided by the student success division. In year two, they work on specific project milestones and are given the opportunity to present at the annual Learning Connections Conference (LCC).
