Many news outlets are reporting organized protests and counter protests being planned for communities across Ontario today. I wanted to inform SLC students and employees of potential travel delays to campus caused by traffic and/or protest activities and address the fact that the nature of the protests do not align with our college values. While we currently don’t expect any impact to campus operations, we will share an update if anything changes.
I want to take this opportunity to remind everyone of our values, commitments, and strengths as a college community and reiterate that St. Lawrence College is a place where everyone belongs and is entitled to learn, work, and be treated with respect. We value the right of individuals to freedom of expression, and hope that folks can respect people’s right to peaceful protest.
That being said, the subject of this protest, and planned counter protests, may be upsetting or triggering to some people from marginalized groups, and their allies, who have experienced discrimination and/or harassment. Because of this, I want to remind everyone of the support available to our students and employees.

I appreciate the people who have reached out, related to the news of these protests, to convey their concerns. When we speak up, we show strength and affirm our commitment to being a college where everyone belongs.
