Students in Rowena Jordan’s Carpentry class got a visit from social media star, Amanda, owner of Useless Farm in Verona, as she was checking on the progress of a chicken coop they are building and donating to her farm.

Amanda currently has some 5 million followers on TikTok, and 650,000 on Instagram featuring such irreverent characters as Karen the Emu, Brad the Rooster, and Keith the Alpaca. She is no stranger to SLC as she graduated from Human Resource Management in 2011, and Business – Marketing in 2006.

Through the building of the coop as a group project, students will learn the basic introductory framing skills, according to Rowena. "As luck would have it, I live down the road from the famous Useless Farm, and we arranged to have the coop donated for their use. It’s very exciting for the students, not only for learning, but to know their work will be seen by millions on social media!"

"A HUGE thank you to SLC, Rowena, and the carpentry students," Amanda said. "We are unbelievably impressed and appreciative (even Karen agrees!). This chicken coop is going to be put to good use at our farm... well, by everyone except Brad! Thank you, thank you, thank you!"

The coop will be ready and delivered to the farm by the end of next week.
