Last week, we welcomed over 80 high school business students to Kingston campus to compete in the "Battle of the Biz Brains" regional high school business case competition. Our client for the day was Dress for Success Kingston (Lindsay MacDonald), who answered many insightful questions from the high school students and judges throughout the day. The top prize, awarded to the team from Kingston Secondary school, included gift certificates and $500 bursaries towards tuition to SLC.
Our team of planners included Adam McGregor, Wendy Whitehead, and students Alejandra, Taylor and Ayush, and in addition to the competing students, we were joined by 10 high school teachers, 35 fantastic community pro judges, 35 student volunteers mentoring the high school teams, and a dozen faculty who helped in various ways throughout the day.
Throughout the day, SLC community members stopped by to check out the event, deans Teresa Pires and Barb LeBlanc assisted in the awards ceremony, and Jamie Puddicombe hosted a very intense trivia game!
We were also joined via Zoom by AMC alum (’11) Brett McDonald, Strategy Director at TBWA\Media Arts Lab, who lead the team for Apple Advertising and won an Emmy last month for their incredible Apple Holiday film. It was a proud moment to hear Brett tracing his success back to his time at SLC.
Thanks to all the SLC depts that helped out; this was a massive team effort, from Recruiting and Marketing to the Registrar, St. Larry's Pub and our Student Association, who ensured all the students left with great swag!
