Field placement is a crucial part of the Advertising and Marketing Communications program, allowing students to gain hands-on experience in their field of study. This experience allows students to apply their academic knowledge in real-world settings, build skills, make industry connections, and prepare for their future careers.
This semester, as part of my field placement with St. Lawrence College Communications and Government Relations, I’ve had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and contribute to several projects within the communications department. I’ve been able to work alongside a great team who have taught me how to navigate everything from crafting compelling stories to understanding internal and external communications. As well as lots of great reading recommendations!
During my time, I’ve learned the importance of collaboration and adaptability to the ever-changing world of communications. I’ve gained a deeper understanding of how a communications department operates and how vital clear messaging can be to an institution like St. Lawrence College. I’ve been able to ask questions, receive constructive feedback, and develop my skills in a real-world setting. It has been an amazing experience!
Looking ahead, I feel more confident in my ability to pursue a career in communications. The knowledge and experience I’ve gained here will be extremely useful in my professional future, and I look forward to continuing my placement with the St. Lawrence College Communications and Government Relations department in the coming weeks!
