"I was having internet issues at the beginning of my class and warned the students that my service provider was doing routine maintenance in my area and that I could lose connection. About half an hour into the lecture I lost my internet connection for 30-40 minutes; when I got it back, I fully assumed that the students would have all left.
What I found instead was that they had taken over the presentation themselves. One student had shared the PowerPoint and they took turns reading the slides and talking about the content. They recorded the lecture and provided me with a copy of it.
The students did a wonderful job. You could hear their comfort level increasing as the lecture proceeded; they talked more and the conversations became more robust. I let them know how impressed I was with the level of maturity and professionalism demonstrated. The students let me know that they were proud of themselves and that it was a real confidence booster for them.
It was wonderful to see them take control of their own learning."
