Duties

Reporting to the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science, the incumbent collaborates with the Associate/Campus Deans of academic programs, as well as the College’s Health and Safety Officer, to develop and oversee safe lab environments, work practices and regulatory compliance in the delivery of academic programs in various labs and shops on three campuses.  While fostering a culture of safety, the incumbent is accountable for establishing required safety protocols, procedures, training and required equipment maintenance in the labs and related field venues. The incumbent also manages technical support staff to ensure effective human resource planning in academic delivery within the lab spaces.  As well, the incumbent collaborates with Associate/Campus Deans and Faculty to provide required documentation for certifications and accreditations in the related programs.

Qualifications

Minimum four-year Post-Secondary diploma/degree in Science and/or Technology with specific training in health and safety and Biosafety / Biosecurity training. Specific training required: Health and Safety Training appropriate to science, technology and food preparation; Biosafety/Biosecurity advanced training; First Aid; WHMIS. Project management experience required. Skills required for troubleshooting and basic repair of lab equipment. Must have 5 plus years of experience applying project management principles, supervising staff and applying health and safety legislation, biosafety requirements and principles.  Experience in academic lab environments, particularly science labs, is preferable.  Experience training adults is an asset. Specific areas of required experience include analytical skills, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal skills, team building, and the ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines. High level of proficiency in the Windows environment, including the full suite of Microsoft Office software products.

Salary and Terms

In addition to the salary range of $84,030 - $105,037, the College offers a comprehensive benefits package and a pay for performance program.
