COMP 5002

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of computer technology required to successfully communicate, present, produce and interpret documents, delineate data in spreadsheets, understand database systems and conduct effective search techniques that are essential in a professional medical environment.  In addition to Microsoft Office applications, students explore how the basic computer works and identify a variety of computer classifications and the major hardware components in order to make informed decisions needed in a fast-paced health care administration environment.  Students explore the importance of academic honesty and integrity guidelines by creating documents that follow recognized citation formats and by conducting effective research searches to support document production. Course content is delivered using lecture and discussion formats. Practical hands-on assignments, student presentations, quizzes and tests reinforce the content and skills that are taught.
