CIVL 60

Environmental Legislation is aimed at providing students with an overview of environmental legislation at the Federal, Provincial and Municipal levels of government. The course will focus on the practical application of various environmental regulations; including those associated with land, water and air. The fundamentals of law are introduced. Each of the major provincial and federal environmental statutes are studied to acquaint the student with the spirit of the legislation, the general prohibitions sections, the penalties for non compliance as well as the contact agencies responsible for the administration of each act. Building on an awareness of each statute, regulations for many of the acts will be examined for a more detailed understanding of waste management, as well as sewer and water management. Case studies of significance will compliment the syllabus. The course is tailored to civil engineering and construction practices, and addresses present and emerging environmental issues.
