The course combines two related sections: current issues in Canadian diversity and current issues particular to First Nations people, communities, and government. In the diversity section students will identify and examine issues in diversity with particular focus on inequality in various social settings; including but not limited to race, gender, ethnicity, religion, social class and sexual orientation. Social/legal explanations will be discussed and students will develop an understanding of impacted groups and strategies of community empowerment. The section will explore issues and information relating to law enforcement.

The First Nations section of the course will examine Canada’s Aboriginal people. Issues and initiatives of impact and importance to Aboriginal people and all Canadian’s, will be examined and discussed in the context of community, regional, provincial, and national perspectives and initiatives. The section will explore issues and information relating to law enforcement.
