St. Lawrence College launches new Strategic Plan, 2019-2024

2019-06-04

St. Lawrence College (SLC) has launched a new Strategic Plan for 2019-2024, entitled “SLC in Five.” The plan is intended to guide the college as it continues to focus on putting students first and building community.

The strategic plan was developed after extensive consultation with close to 1,400 stakeholders including students, faculty, staff, union leaders, alumni, and community partners.

“Because of the work we did with the SLC community, SLC in Five truly belongs to us,” said Glenn Vollebregt, President and CEO, St. Lawrence College. “After many months of engagement, SLC is now positioned to move ahead confidently, guided by a plan that is ours, knowing each action we take will contribute toward our goals for the future.”

SLC in Five builds on the previous strategic plan, Our Future, 2014-2019, which introduced the College’s vision, mission and values. These will remain the same, with one important addition.

During the consultative process it was felt that SLC’s commitment to providing a welcoming environment should be solidified, according to Vollebregt. “We addressed this need by adding a new corporate value: Belonging.” In addition to the values of: Students First, Teamwork, Innovation, and Integrity, the new value, Belonging states:

We believe honesty, inclusivity and accountability are the pathways to success. As communities evolve, we look to create a sense of Belonging for our students, team, and partners. We celebrate diversity, respect our differences, value contributions, and foster an environment where everyone feels they can participate without discrimination in our College community.

SLC has also formalized an objective to continue the important work around Truth and Reconciliation to honour history and contribute to a positive future for Indigenous learners and communities.
