Local artist Elke Bzdurreck featured in solo exhibit at community art gallery

2018-01-19

BROCKVILLE - The Marianne van Silfhout Gallery is proud to present “Inner Expressions and the Outer Universe”, an exhibition of the artwork of local artist Elke Bzdurreck.

The exhibition will be on display at the Marianne van Silfhout Gallery on St. Lawrence College’s Brockville campus from January 12 to February 23, 2018. Media and members of the community are invited to a public reception in the Gallery on Friday, January 19, from 7:00-9:00pm.

Elke Bzdurreck realized that she wanted to be an artist at age six when she was growing up in Minden, Germany. She enrolled at the College of Art in Cologne to study fine art when she was eighteen. After graduation, in 1969, Elke moved to Toronto and worked there as an illustrator and became an established artist. For many years after, Elke lived and worked in her country home in Pontiac, in rural West Quebec.

Elke has exhibited in galleries in Canada, Germany, USA, Russia, Costa Rica and Japan. Her body of work ranges from realism to expressional abstraction and her preferred medias are watercolor, acrylic, pen and ink, and printmaking. For the last 2 years, Elke has been working on illustrations for Zoe, a book telling the story of the rescue of a little howler monkey for the Nosara Wildlife Rescue in Costa Rica.

Last year, Elke moved her studio and gallery from Pontiac, Quebec to the village of Lyn, near Brockville, Ontario, Canada. In Lyn, Elke has a beautiful Studio and Gallery space in a 201-year-old Georgian manor, which she describes as “a wonderful place to work, show and share.” Learn more about Elke Bzdurreck at www.elkebzd.com.

On display in the Foyer Gallery are mixed media works by artist Lise Melhorn-Boe, who has worked with books as an art medium over the past forty years. Drawn to women’s experiences, both in the political and personal spheres, Lise plays with humour and a light-hearted visual aesthetic to explore more serious feminist and environmental issues.
