Kingston high school and college students teach financial literacy

St. Lawrence College (SLC) and Kingston Collegiate and Vocational Institute (KCVI) students developed, and will deliver, the second Kingston Youth Financial Literacy Symposium as part of Financial Literacy Month this November.

Approximately 200 grades seven and eight students will take part in the symposium on November 9 from 10 am to 2 pm. The Boys and Girls Club of Kingston & Area is hosting the event at 1300 Bath Road, Kingston.

The Enactus SLC & DECA KCVI students will be working with the Kingston chapter of Advocis, a professional group for financial planners and advisors, as well as other industry professionals to deliver the program.

Activities will include interactive lessons on credit and debt; budgeting; dining on a budget; wants vs. needs; technological resources; setting goals; and saving and investing. Student volunteers will lead the workshops, with the support of a professional from the Kingston Financial Literacy Partnership.

The Kingston Youth Financial Literacy Symposium is grateful for the support from: Ace Nutrition, Advocis, Black Sheep Thinking, Freedom 55 Financial, Boys and Girls Club, HollisWealth, Lessard Financial Solutions, Heidi Blondin Financial Inc., DECA KCVI, Enactus SLC, Limestone District School Board, Resolve Counselling Services Kingston, and Tidal Financial.
