Cities celebrate St. Lawrence College Week, April 3 to 8

2017-04-03

Today, St. Lawrence College is launching the 50 Acts Challenge, part of a week-long celebration of the college’s 50th anniversary.

St. Lawrence College enrolled its first students in 1967 and has been an integral part of the community ever since, graduating almost 90,000 students, most of whom continue to live and work in our communities.

“This is an opportunity for St. Lawrence College to give back to the communities that do so much to support our students,” said Glenn Vollebregt, President and CEO.

Students and staff across our three campuses are busy taking part in the 50 Acts challenge, and some of their many activities include:

  • Food drives for student food banks as well as local community food banks.
  • Participation in the Great Canadian Shoreline Clean Up.
  • Clothing drives for local women’s shelter.
  • Volunteering at local youth shelter.
  • Student-run innovation conference to mentor local elementary students.
  • Music Theatre performances at local seniors centre, and so much more!

In addition, the City Councils of Brockville, Cornwall and Kingston have proclaimed the week of April 3 to 8 St. Lawrence College Week.

“I want to thank the City Councils of Brockville, Cornwall and Kingston for proclaiming this week St. Lawrence College Week,” said Vollebregt. “This is one more example of the incredible level of support our students receive from our communities.”

St. Lawrence College Week will end with a big finish on Saturday, April 8, with a Spring Open House. College applicants and potential applicants are invited to drop in to our campuses (9 am to 3 pm in Kingston, 9 am to noon in Brockville and Cornwall) to learn about the college and the more than 100 programs available to students.

Celebrations in honour of St. Lawrence College’s 50th anniversary will continue throughout 2017.  Alumni celebrations will take place over the summer. Open Time Capsules featuring college memorabilia from will be unveiled in Kingston, Brockville and Cornwall next fall.
