Reporting to the Senior VP Academic, the Dean, Program Development, will provide leadership and direction in the assessment and development of new college programs to respond to the ever evolving needs of the community and to ensure SLC remains at the leading edge of higher education and excellence in the design and development of programs.  The incumbent will lead the development of new college programs: certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, graduate certificate programs, degree programs (stand-alone or in partnership) and micro-credentials including all aspects of program design, development, and delivery.  In partnership with all stakeholders, the Dean will engage in consultation and collaboration to lead the development process from the ideation stage to program launch and renewal. The Dean will develop and maintain working relationships with representatives from Colleges Ontario, the Post-secondary Education Quality Assessment Board (PEQAB Secretariat), OCQASA and other provincial committees and on initiatives established through the Ministry, and contribute to policy development. Through active participation in related community organizations, and representing the college at community events, the Dean plays a key role in enhancing the profile and reputation of the college by responding to partnerships and joint venture needs.


St. Lawrence College is seeking an experienced academic administrator in a new position of Dean, Program Development.  The ideal candidate will possess at minimum, a Master’s degree, preferably in a curriculum related field or in education.  Completion of a PhD in addition to the minimum degree requirement will be an asset. 


Our ideal candidate will have acquired the following experience: 

  • 12 years of progressive experience including leadership responsibilities with evidence of leading others towards innovation and excellence.
  • Experience in teaching, curriculum and program development and student assessment from a learning outcomes perspective, digital learning strategies, program review, curriculum mapping, the development of new projects and programming, and the development of competency-based learning.
  • A solid background and experience providing leadership in academic program quality assurance activities and measures.
  • Experience in the recruitment, management of human resources, development and performance management of staff.
  • Experience in budgeting.

The successful candidate will also possess:

  • An excellent understanding of best practices (evidence-based) in adult learning. A proven track record of developing innovative programs that include the use of alternative delivery formats and modalities, immersive technologies and simulations, adaptive learning technology, badges and the use of Open Educational Resources etc.
  • Demonstrated National and International knowledge and awareness of post-secondary practices, requirements and trends and demonstrated, well-developed understanding of business financial processes and systems, including management of a complex budgeting process and proficiency in project management.
  • The ability to develop and/or implement faculty objectives that are consistent with the College’s strategic directions.
  • Advanced written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Reliable problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.

Salary and Terms

In addition to the salary range of $127,503 - $170,003 per annum the compensation package includes a performance-based salary program and a comprehensive benefit package. Starting salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
