International Alumni Ambassador Program

Do you have questions about what it is like to be an International student at St. Lawrence College? Our International Alumni Ambassador Program involves students who have graduated from SLC as International students, as well as students who grew up in Canada and now live abroad.

International Alumni Ambassadors are individuals who want to share their college experiences in a positive and meaningful way. They are volunteers who serve as local contacts and ambassadors for SLC, in specific geographic regions or on behalf of a specific program.

International Alumni Ambassadors can help with the following:

  • Answer questions about their experiences at SLC and college life
  • Offer advice to people coming to Canada to study
  • Participate at pre-departure sessions before students leave the country you live in
  • Meet ups and social gatherings when possible

Become an Ambassador

If you are an International student who has graduated, consider becoming an International Alumni Ambassador. You'll be able to connect with current International students at St. Lawrence College to share your experiences, offer advice, and create a positive impact.

"I came to Canada two years ago from El Salvador. I remember feeling excited, afraid, anxious, but mostly; I remember having a lot of dreams and goals that I wanted to achieve. Since my first day at SLC, I just knew that I was in the right place and that I was going to be able to accomplish a lot. Why? Because I LOVED my program (1st Year / Interactive Marketing Communications Certificate and 2nd year/Advertising and Marketing Communications Diploma) and my teachers were AMAZING. When you are eager to learn, passionate about what you are studying, and your teachers LOVE what they do and care about seeing you succeed, the sky is the limit. Thanks to my teachers at SLC, I am now working on what I love: Marketing and Project Management. I was hired where I did my placement, and I am now the Marketing Manager/Creative Services Coordinator at MPSToolbox/TangentMTW. THANK YOU SLC!"

"My experience as an international student at St. Lawrence College was amazing. I had the opportunity to learn about different cultures and experience new things with friends that now even though we are in different countries I can still call them "family", because that is what we become. The international community has the opportunity to go on trips planned by the international office throughout the year and that is the best way to get to know new international students. The school was a great support, the teachers are so warm and open to hear you or help you that I still keep in touch with some of my teachers and they are still a big help in my career. St. Lawrence College was one of the best decisions I made, I am so thankful with my parents that I had the opportunity to study in such a great place."

"St. Lawrence College in Kingston was the perfect fit for me. I come from a small island – Bermuda, where everyone is like a close knit family. The size of SLC- Kingston, was not too big nor was it too small, you were able to come in contact with almost everyone. The International Department, became my walk in the park, as they helped whenever needed. The teachers were only an email away. The students, always willing to guide you to the right connect person. Overall, SLC embraced the characteristic of a close family, and made me feel as if I was at a home away from home."

“I had no clue what I wanted to do before coming to Canada. I took a leap and applied to join the 3-year Business Marketing program in 2014 at SLC. Being an international student can be scary, but the staff, extracurriculars, placements, and services helped me find my dream. If you go to SLC, get involved, and take advantage of all the help offered. I worked on the well-known business club at SLC called Enactus, and acted as a project manager on a ‘Help Hunger Disappear’ initiative, which let me to find my passion working for a non-profit industry. Thanks to all the opportunities and experiences that were given to me through St. Lawrence College, I got accepted in my dream job at a charity organization (United Way KFLA) (Charity organization) immediately after completing the placement. Coming to Canada and SLC was the best decision I ever made.”

“I landed in Canada on December 2015 for the chance of a better life for my three children. As part of our journey, I went back to school and I truly enjoyed it! The academic challenges I had been exposed to, at St. Lawrence College, have given me a great overview of some cultural and business behaviours in the country. If ever required, I would do it all over again.”
