Bursaries and Scholarships at SLC
Thanks to the generosity of alumni and friends, St. Lawrence College has an extensive Scholarships and Bursaries program to help you pay for college.
- A bursary or scholarship can make a BIG difference in helping you pay for college – they range between $500 and $3,000.
- You need to fill out the application ONCE to be considered for all bursaries for which you qualify.
More than 500 bursaries were provided to students across our three campuses last year! This was possible thanks to the generosity of alumni and friends, including many corporations and foundations in the community.
Bursary Application Windows
- Fall 2023 and Winter 2024 Rounds: Closed. Will reopen July 2024.
This application requires your student portal with your email and account access. If you are having difficulties accessing the application, first try to access the SLC.me portal with your SLC email and password (verified by Duo) before clicking on the “APPLY NOW” link to the application. As of June 1, 2022, students must have DUO access set up.

The selection committee will not know you and will be relying solely on what you have provided on your application form in making their decision...be sure to include any and all information that can help them choose you! A good self-test is to read your responses and ask yourself, would YOU pick you?
Financial needs and academics are important, however, volunteer, leadership skills and obstacles you overcame to pursue your post-secondary education are all considered; we look at the big picture.
Before you start typing your answers:
- Review the criteria of various awards to ensure you include all applicable information on your application to be considered for all awards you are eligible.
- Read the questions over carefully.
- Answer the questions to the best of your ability, and be sure to include how you meet the criteria.
- Read over your answers and correct any spelling or grammar errors.
TIP: You may want to copy the criteria and type your answers in a Word document where you can do a spell-check and then copy your responses into the online application. Using Word also means you can save your responses and keep them on file so you can reference them again later if you need to.
Frequently Asked Questions
Entrance: You are an entrance student if you are 1) starting your first year of any full-time program at St. Lawrence College for the first time or 2) starting your first year of any full-time program at St. Lawrence College, even though you were enrolled in a different full-time program last year.
Returning: You are a returning student if you are 1) returning to St. Lawrence College to complete your second, third, or fourth year of a full-time program, or 2) are enrolled in a ONE year full-time program.
You do not need to apply for anyone award directly; once you fill out the awards application you will be matched up to any award whose criteria you meet. To view these criteria, please visit Convocation Awards or In-Year Awards.
No, your award/bursary funds will be automatically posted to your tuition, reducing your balance.
You can view your new tuition balance by logging into SLC.me and clicking “My Account Inquiry” under “My HUB”.
If you have any difficulties, contact your academic school (where you paid your tuition) to find out your new account balance
After viewing your tuition account through SLC.me you, if you have a credit on your account after your Winter term fees are paid, you can contact enrolment@sl.on.ca and request a refund to be issued to you. Please be aware that it may take 2 -3 weeks before you receive your refund. You will only receive a refund if your account shows a CREDIT balance – meaning all tuition has been paid.
Your benefactor has generously donated the funds for this award/bursary to make sure students in financial need are able to complete their studies. To ensure this, our policy is to post award/bursary funds to tuition. That award/bursary remains on your account and any refund issued is a return of your own funds.
Any monetary awards must be reported if you are receiving OSAP this academic year. Please book an appointment with the OSAP office on your campus to update the award income in your account.

Second Career cases are reviewed on an individual basis therefore it is best to consult with you Second Career advisor.
No. Your application is confidential and is used only by staff of the College to make the selection. Donors are notified of the first name and initial of their student recipient, to protect your privacy. If you wish to reveal your full name in your Thank You message, that is your choice.
Please note that in order to meet the criteria for the bursary, you must remain a full-time student. Should you withdraw from the college, change programs or change campus, your bursary or scholarship may be reversed and reissued to another student who does meet all the criteria established by the donor. You are ultimately responsible for the cost of your education, and may be responsible for your non-refundable deposit, should your enrollment status change.
Generally, as long as you stay in your program until after October 15 (or February 15 for students who start in January) then it’s likely that the bursary will not be removed from your account. However, if you do withdraw, fail or switch programs before that date, you MAY see your bursary withdrawn (reversed), meaning you will owe the College for the tuition now owed. You will be responsible for any balance owing to the college for your tuition.
The Winter application closes late January, and we will make our selections after this date. Successful recipients will be notified mid-February by email. Unfortunately, we can only notify those who are successful due to the high volume of applicants.
All applications that were submitted for the Fall Term will be kept for the Winter application period, meaning if you applied for the Fall round, you will not need to re-apply for the Winter term, unless there has been a change in your application information.

Scholarships are non-repayable awards given to recognize a student’s academic achievement.
Bursaries are non-repayable awards provided on the basis of financial need, without an emphasis on academic achievement.
There are a range of values for each scholarship, but the minimum amount a successful recipient will receive is $500.00.
You only need to fill out one application to be considered for all the scholarships and bursaries available and each has its own criteria. In the bursary and scholarship options section (below) we have listed all the scholarships and bursaries available to both domestic and international students with the corresponding criteria.
Yes, there are a couple of bursaries that require a separate application.
- The Ontario First Generation Bursary (for post-secondary students whose parents have never attended post-secondary studies). The application for this will open in the Winter term and more information on it can be found here.
- If you are a current student and if you find yourself experiencing financial hardship, you may be eligible to apply for Hardship Assistance. The Hardship Financial Assistance is awarded on a "needs" basis, and additional extenuating circumstances will be reviewed individually. The application is to be completed online. Your completed application will be reviewed within 48 business hours, and Financial Aid will notify you by email to your SLC account of the decision. Frequently Asked Questions (International Students)
Yes, all international students are eligible to apply for scholarships and bursaries.
There are some scholarships and bursaries that are only applicable to Ontario residents due to support received from the Government of Ontario. To be eligible, you must be a Canadian Citizen and have been a resident of Ontario for at least 12 consecutive months.
